Join the City Club of Cleveland for another installment of its free and public discussion series, For the Love of Cleveland. This week’s topic is  “The Geography of Gentrification” and panelists will discuss the complexity of gentrification. Their conversation will revolve around Glenville, a community experiencing both increased home prices and some of the highest rates of childhood poverty in Cleveland, and SoLo (South of Lorain Avenue), which is gentrifying due to is proximity to Downtown and the Ohio City Historic District.

As these neighborhoods bring in young professionals and families eager to embrace urban living, what are the factors that attract new residents while simultaneously pushing existing residents out? What causes some neighborhoods to gentrify while others continue to struggle? Is it possible for neighborhoods to find a balance between attraction and retention, preserving diversity in all its forms?

Panelists include:

Mordecai Cargill, Fund Development Manager, Cleveland Neighborhood Progress
Khrys Shefton, PMP, Director of Real Estate Development, Famicos Foundation
Ben Trimble, Senior Director of Real Estate and Planning, Ohio City Incorporated

This conversation will be moderated by ideastream® senior host/producer Rick Jackson.
