Join the City Club of Cleveland for another installment of its free and public panel discussion series, For the Love of Cleveland. This week, the topic is Too Many Houses, Not Enough Homes and we will discuss housing in Cleveland. Cleveland has been named one of the most affordable housing markets in the country and is often cited as a reason why many former Clevelanders “boomerang” home. Despite its affordability, Cleveland is also plagued by aging and inadequate housing stock, evictions, and foreclosures – all which affect a neighborhood’s ability to attract new residents.

Neighborhoods can’t thrive without adequate and affordable housing. How do we preserve our existing housing stock to provide diverse and equitable home options for all Cleveland residents? What lessons can we learn from redevelopment projects in Slavic Village, which gained national attention as the ZIP code hardest hit by the foreclosure crisis, and the Kinsman neighborhood, which has one of the highest rates of abandoned houses in Cleveland?

Panelists include:

Christopher Alvarado, Executive Director, Slavic Village Development

Ayonna Blue Donald, Interim Director, Department of Building and Housing, City of Cleveland

Jacqueline Gillon, Community Engagement Specialist, Thriving Communities Institute, and Slavic Village resident

This conversation will be moderated by City Club CEO Dan Moulthrop.
