Celebrating National Community Development Week 2017

Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, along with many advocates are excited to celebrate the kick off of National Community Development Week 2017! This year marks the 43rd anniversary of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and the 31st anniversary of the National Community Development Week campaign. This annual campaign is designed to focus local as well as national attention to the numerous outstanding accomplishments of programs such as CDBG and the HOME Investment Partnership Program.

A little over a month ago, President Donald Trump released his “skinny budget”; which proposes to cut $6.2 million dollars from the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) budget. Cleveland and Ohio at large have utilized and leveraged these resources for over 40 years and these proposed cuts will be devastating to our communities. “CDBG money is critical to the development of Cleveland’s neighborhoods,” said Joel Ratner, president and CEO of Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, a nonprofit that supports and guides the work of the city’s community development corporations, which create and execute many of the projects that use CDBG money.

We ask you to join us this week to celebrate all the great work of our local community development corporations (CDCs) and critical stakeholders and help us communicate to our members of Congress why these resources are critical to the vibrancy of our neighborhoods. Help us #FightTheCuts!! #CDWeek2017
